A4- Thurs. Oct 23

Briana C
Yesterday, October 23, 2008, was a great experience at the Jewish American History Museum. We formed a group of four to set up a display like they were the real ones to be shown to the visitors. As groups, we had to give a reason why we had set up the certain items the way we did and describe it. In my group, which included; Miguel, Imyah, Jie, and myself, our display of the five different items was called Coming To America, the title should explain a lot. Our five items chosen were, a certificate to be an America citizen, a picture for memories, a wooden stick to go on the outside of a door to keep bad energy out and invite good. The other two are, a cloth used to pray with and a Jewish Holy Scriptures book, which was sort of like a Bible. We also learned about the other group's display. Some other display topics were, Jewish Holidays, and about the War.

Imyah S.
October 23, 2008, our Art History group went to the Jewish American History Museum to learn about Jewish American history and to make our individual group exhibits. My group consisting of Miguel, Briana C, Jie and myself named our exhibit "Coming to America". It was about a Jewish women coming to America and the items she might have brought with her. In other group exhibits, I learned about Jewish holidays, religious items, wars, and nations. After my experience in the museum, I look at Jewish history differently. I feel the struggles they went through to get to America and how they practice their religion.

On Thursday October 23, Period 4 class went to the Jewish Museum after lunch. The trip was great and I learned a lot of things. I learned that all men and women should have on some type of coverings on their heads while entering a temple. Jewish people also used a kind of bible that you can read to have blessings or read scriptures. The assignment that we had to do is pick an artifact out of the box that was at every station, write its ascension number, and present what it is and how it could be used. We had to wear gloves to touch the artifacts. While walking out of the museum, I looked at the gifts in the gift shop and I noticed the prices were about $115.00. I enjoyed the trip and can't wait to see the new museum, which will have 5 floors and will be done in 2010. That's my experience at the Jewish Museum.

Desiree
I really enjoyed going to the museum. I like sitting there learning about the life of the Jews. I also like when we put the exhibit together and have to come up with a story.

Kahleah
Something I really enjoyed during our trip to the Jewish museum was when everyone got the chance to display our projects bout Jewish history. One of my favorite projects was the one about the Jewish soldier who moved.

I also enjoyed the sketches on the walls showing how the new museum would look in 2010.

Miguel
The Jewish museum was a great experience for me. I learned a whole lot about Jewish immigration. Our exhibit was about Jews coming to America. It had a passport, a picture of a Jewish man and a soldier and some other interesting things

Stephen
On Friday when we went to the museum I had fun I liked that we had got to do what a creator does for a living. My group did the project on a guy named Kat. He was in the war; he had a medal for his corporation in the war. I hope that we get to go back.

Jie
I like the to National Museum Of American Jewish History, but I think we need to have more time in the museum. It was very fun in the Jewish History Museum when we get to put the exhibition. It was a very a very good experiment for me. I cannot to see the new Museum of American Jewish History.

Trey
The trip was nice because the guides gave us a lot of information. They gave the group that I was in a lot of info about Jewish religion. I did not like how small it was even though I know they are getting bigger.

Erica I
What I liked about the Jewish museum was how we got to make a story out of the artifacts they provided us with. My group was Gabbi, Briana, and Stephen. The story we put together & created was called "An old Solider". The artifacts that we used was an old passport, a Jewish book, a donation cup, a metal, & a document. The passport was supposed to be the solders that was in the war, while we made the book & donation cup something he brought to war with him to remind him of home. The metal was something he won from war & the document just told a little bit about him.

Chalise
During the trip to the Jewish museum I found it fun and exciting. Instead of us just sitting around listening to the Lady speak we had the opportunity to be apart of the exhibit. Being apart of something really catches my attention and make it easy for me to learn something. I was apart of the traditions and celebration exhibit. I knew about the Jewish holidays such as Chanukah but I didn't know too much about it. So I enjoyed the trip it was fun and I wouldn't mine going back again especially once they get their bigger building.

Jasmine W
I liked the way we made up our own tradition presentation and how we got to experience a lot touching historical artifacts.

I think what should've been different is that the people seemed protective and stood around and we didn't get to ON OUR OWN, figure things out for ourselves.

Jazmine B
I thought that the trip was very insightful. I liked how we learned to make an exhibit. I didn't like the talk that the lady gave us before we did our exhibits. I was in the group with Jasmine W., Chalise T., and Elbert U. We did our exhibit based on traditions.

I liked the trip to the museum of Jewish American history. It gave me a chance to stretch my legs and get out of the building. It also gave me a chance to learn about something new. The thing I liked the most was the exhibit that we got to design. That activity gave me a chance to be creative and have fun. I pretty much liked the entire trip and I would like to go again.

Jimmy
I liked the trip a lot. We actually got to make an exhibit. To tell you the truth I never thought I would be ale to do that in my whole life

Bria M.
I thought the trip was boring because we learned about Jewish history. I wanted to learn about something else.
I did enjoy going there and certain topics were interesting and I could learn about it more and more everyday. But the trip was boring itself I did not enjoy it at all. It was nice to get out of the school.

Katerri
I think that the museum was sort of fun. I liked putting the exhibit together. I thought the museum itself was boring though. I think if the hand more artifacts it would of been a lot more interesting.

George
I really did like going to the museum.

I really like that we created our own exhibit it was really fun working with each other and researching the artifacts.

Something that I didn’t like was the amount of time that we had it was to little, only 15 minutes too little time.

I learned that Jewish people had many holidays and they r really cool stuff they used from those holidays.

Jankai
1. The part that I like on the trip was when we had to put the exhibit together and work I groups and present our ideas to our classmate.
2. The thing that I don't like about the national museum of Jewish American history is the place was too small and they didn't have lots of pictures to look at.

Pedro
When my class went to the national Jewish museum, I learned several things. First I learned some feedback of the Jewish culture. Which it helped me realize how their life is different then ours. Second, I learned that when a young girl and boy complete their age of 13, they become a grown body. Finally the last thing that I liked was when my group and me made an exhibit. I really liked the national Jewish museum, and I will love to come back.

Myles
I didn’t really favor the trip so much. I feel as though they have much to improve upon. But I give them credit for working with the small space that they were working with. Nothing really caught my eye in any exhibitions that they had on display but they computer activity was pretty cool but nothing else really maybe because I didn’t take the time out to check them out.

Labria
I think the museum will be more interesting if there were younger people working there and if it was bigger. I liked my group and how we made that exhibit I think our group was very organized and worked well together. I liked that the museum was straight to the point and even though the people were old they still were very friendly and kind. What I disliked was the fact that we had to sit on the floor. What I really enjoyed was that we got to get lunch!

Malika
At the museum I enjoyed building an exhibit. I think ours was very organized. What I also liked about the museum was that it was very small and to the point. It was clear, they had a lot of artifacts. They had an expensive gift shop full of a lot of things I enjoyed looking at that stuff. That’s what I enjoyed.

Kris
I think the museum should have given us a bit more time to prepare. I think we were only given at 15 minutes to label and set everything up and some of our labels were really sloppy because we were in a rush to get done. They also weren't very clear on the names of certain items that we had in our case, so the pronunciation was wrong when we were doing our presentations. I didn't quite understand what they were getting at when they said we were going to create our own display... I know they wanted us to realize what a historian was but I didn't think constructing a display would help us.
However, overall I believe that it ran pretty smoothly. I honestly wouldn't want to do it again because it was kind of boring me and I don't believe I learned much at all, however that's probably because Jewish history doesn't really hold my interest.

Tynisha
I think the museum could have had a little bit more of history, because there was really nothing in it. It was making me bored I like to look at thing and read history about them. It still was an ok museum but if there were just a little more information then I think more people would want to come to that place more. I liked making that exhibit box. That was very interesting. I had fun at the museum only when we had to make the box. If we where to go there again I would say that they put just some more history into the site.

Saffronia
Our trip to the Jewish Museum was fun I did enjoy the activities that they had us do. The only thing that bore me was in the beginning when the lady was talking to us, I thought that she was real dry she made it less interesting for me to care about what she had to say. Other than that I enjoyed the rest of the activities.

Lauren
The only thing that I would say that I liked about the Jewish museum would be the part where we looked at each group’s artifact exhibits and compared them to history. I disliked the fact that we had to sit and here the same thing over as the day before. It tired me out. Overall it was ok, but the experience could have been a little bit better.

Alex R.
I think that this Jewish trip was not so good because it wasn't as exciting as I thought. I learned some things but not as much as I hoped. It could've been better if they would've had more for us to see and more things about their religion than the items.

Shannon
The trip that we went on was to the Jewish Museum. It’s had something for us to do but this was really not something that I am interested in. I'm not a really good person that likes to deal with making things and putting it together. It’s something that really does not grab my attention and make me want to learn. Its something that I would not like but I quickly added myself into the group project because it would be really rude. So that’s what I think about the Jewish trip that we went on.

Charnique
I did not like the museum because it was "dry", it did not have enough character. It was not fun nothing popped out at me to make me interested in Jewish history after I left there was I not anymore interested in Jewish history than I was before I came. I believe that if they made it more kid friendly with fun interesting things bright colors and fun lively tour guides more people would want to come there.

I liked the trip it was cool. I liked how we go to make an exhibit using the artifacts. I think however they should expand on what the have and make it more detailed.

Kendall
Last week we went to the National American Jewish History Museum. It's half a museum and the other half is a Temple. While walking down a narrow hallway, I noticed it was filled with beautiful jewels and treasures. The glass cases help cups for holy holidays. The exhibit we went to was called Memories. We talked about what memories are and what they mean to us. Next we had to make our own exhibit we got into groups and were given a box. In that box we old items of someone’s. We had to put the items in a glass box and tell a story of the person and there items. Our exhibit was called the Rose Jeck Exhibit. We had a songbook that she owned, a holy gateway that she hung over her door to let in holy sprits, and a glass that was hers for the holy holidays. Our stories were not only informational but fun as well. I would love to go again.

Shayana
At the NMAJH I really enjoyed working with my partners who were Mierra, Zarinah, and Ishaiah and making our own exhibit to display to our classmates, the most part at the museum was when we were able to name the exhibit that we made. Learning about the Jewish history was interesting, when we arrived there we learned that Jews worn a patch when they came to the United States and I also enjoyed that we had the lady named Ms. Johanna give us our own job when did the exhibit. When people work in groups there is a lot of hard work that there is to be done and working together gets the job done much faster and I wish we could go another time to stay longer.

Olivia
The trip to NMAJH on Friday was a funny and frustrating trip. I like that fact that at the museum they had a game for us to play. We had to create an exhibit with the box that we were given. The people that were in my group were Olivia, Michael, Jacqueline, and Shaquille. We tried to work together but it was extremely hard. But our whole thing wasn't the worst but it wasn't the best. Over the entire trip was a good one.

Jade
On Friday October 17th we visited the NMJH art Museum. I was in a group of five. The people that was in me group was Britty, Karena, Channell and Sharifa, and me. When we went to the museum we had to make an exhibit. In our exhibit we had a Jewish bible, a Jewish scroll, a passport, a medal and a hymnbook. We had written a small description about each object. After we put our exhibit together we did a short presentation. That is what we did when we went to the NMJH museum.

Jackie
When we went to NMAJH it was a very interesting museum. A man named Dan greeted us; he answered questions we had about the Jewish religion. They had an activity planned for us. We got a box of items containing Jewish artifacts. We had to create an exhibit with the artifacts we received, we had to tell a story about what our exhibit represents. My role in the project was to be the storyteller. It was a very enlighten experience.

Sharifa
The trip on Friday was very good because I got to know what are Jewish traditions, such as the type of bible they read and the hymnbook they use. I also liked the fact that we worked in groups to create our own little display. It was a difficult task because we all had different opinions, but we got it together as a group. Our display was different and unique because we came up with the idea of or display going around. We didn't have much time to go over our work and make sure we had everything organized. I really think this was a good experience and I will do it a million times over if I have to.

Marcus S.
On our trip to Nmajh there were a lot of things that went well and things that were interesting. One was how they were so organized in letting have our own exhibit out of passed on Jewish history. In my group it was me (Marcus), Elicia, Mathew, and Kendall. Our exhibit was about the life style of a lady named rose. She was a Jewish person as well, she had diploma's, and what the Jewish people songbook. Our presentation went well and others did to. What went bad is weren't able to see the other exhibits, and we couldn't have two or more people present. All the presentations went well and I have learned a lot about Jewish history that I have never new about Jewish people before. I wish to go back sometime this year and learn more about their culture and go to the other exhibits they have, and go to their new museum that open in 2010.

Zarinah
Last Friday we went to the Jewish museum called The Nmjah. When we got there what we did was talk about the museum and how the Jewish celebrate their religion. Then there was a lady who told us
we were going to create an exhibit. We had to get in groups. In my group was Shayana, Mierra, Ishaya and I. The name of our exhibit was The War Of The Jews. In our exhibit were facts about a man named Jacob Hurwitz and how he was in World War 2. We actually had fun at the museum, and we learned a lot about some Jewish people.

Brittany J
My experience at the National Museum of American Jewish History was great. I learned that making an exhibit for a museum isn't at all easy. The people in my group was Channell, Jade, Karina, and Sharifa. We were told that we have to put on gloves so that the objects won't get smeared with fingerprints. My group had to put a group of items together that told a story. We had to measure the items to make sure that they fit evenly into the see-thru box. After that we made labels with short descriptions of the items so that the people viewing our exhibit could know what they were looking at. Our group tried to put the objects in different angles so that viewers could walk around the exhibit. Sharifa was the presenter she got up and told everyone about our exhibit. I didn't like the fact that she didn't know what to say when the word were on the cards. That made me embarrassed but no one could tell because we kept a smile on our face. I also wish that we had more time. In conclusion I believe that NMAJH is a very well put together museum and if you're in the area you should stop by!

Shia
When we went to nmajh we had an activity to do. They planned for us to create an exhibit where we all had to tell a story
And explain to our classmates. My group members were ishaiah
(me),shayana, mierra, and zarinah we all worked together.

Our title was the war of jews. Our exhibit showed the
History of jews, what they wore, and what they did.i liked how we had different duties like when i had to measure
Everything. It didn't like when we wern't able to talk about the jews background. We really wanted to here the lady's story but instead they told us we had to do the exhibit. What I learned is that we all have to work together as a group and agree because if you don't the work will not get done.

Karena
The trip on Friday was pretty interesting to me. I have always been interested in learning about other cultures, and for some reason I always liked the Jewish culture. I think that it's something that there is a lot of racism over, and yet many people don't even know much about the culture. It was really interesting to see the different artifacts, and primary sources of that particular culture, and how it was used. I also sort of liked trying to figure out some one's story without talking to them, and only using certain objects, or documents. It was however slightly difficult because all the artifacts in the box were really interesting, however we could only pick and chose our favorites. That goes to show that not every thing in history is told accurately, and many details are left out. Overall going to the museum was a good experience for me.

Shaquille
We went to NMJH on Friday October 17. We learned so much; my group consisted of three other people (Jackie, Olivia, and Michael). We got there, the tour guide gave us a little bit of history about Jews, such as, where their really from (Spain) and he told us a little about what they eat, about their religion (they don't believe in Jesus Christ and believe your a man where you 13 which is a Bar Mitzvah) when we got there and learned some things, the tour guide gave us a little assignment which was that they gave us a little box, which had 12 items in there. We had to put together a little display section in a little box, which would show some type of Jewish history. My group had a box full of things about one person, Mark S Swork. He was an artist who described his situation in life whether it was his sexual desires, his marriage, his dreams or just anything he was feeling. My group put together a display based on that, which also included his marriage license, his high school diploma, manure, and his sketchbook. My experience was pretty cool because I learned a lot about a religion I didn't know but despite my group’s petty arguments, we pulled together and got what we had to do done. Overall it was cool

Elicia
I really enjoyed the trip to NMAHJ I enjoyed it because we got to make our own display and make up a story for them, thank you again for taking us on this trip. Thanks again and have a great day!=:>

Michael P
The trip last Friday to NMAJH was interesting. I did not like somebody in my group, and I thought that our presentation was not good at all. I think that it looked messy compared to everybody else's. Other than that I think that it was a good trip. I am interested in learning more about Jewish American history. Before Friday I was ignorant to many facts about the Jewish religion. I hope that we will be able to go back to the museum soon.

Mierra
On Friday when my class went to "NMAJH", I learned a lot about Jewish history! I've learned that their history is just as important as our American history and African-American history. When we made our display, my group consisted on Isahaiah, Shayanna and Zarina. Our display was about Jewish joining the "Air Raiders." In our display, we had a lot of important things but one of the things that stood out was the tool in which the Jewish use to pray. This was an awesome experience for my classmates and myself!
